Africa 2006 - 10 August - 13 September
I hadn’t thought about traveling to Africa since 1989 when I asked my mother what her dream trip would be and she had said either an African Safari or Egypt.  Thinking of shots, malaria, 4x4 vehicle rides, late night and early morning game viewings, I opted to take her to Egypt.

This year, I resigned from my day job.  I was having lunch with a friend and she mentioned that her dream trip was a month long  African Overland Safari and that she was looking to share a tour with someone.  I had her send me the information and thought  “why not?”.  However, my friend had to cancel her plans so I decided to go ahead and “Do Africa on my own”.  Afterall, I had the time, the energy and after cashing in a life insurance dividend, the money.  I emailed a contact listed in Frommers.com that gave me a travel agent in Cape Town and with Adele's help I planned a 5 week trip to South Africa. I decided to start my trip on August 10th as a tribute to my mother as that date had been her birthday.

Instead of the usual travelogue I’m going to use some of the emails that I sent during my trip and add photos.  Enjoy.
